Calcium

I had a nightmare earlier this week, that I couldn’t rotate my ankles.

Vanessa has been breathing down my neck for a while, about the importance of taking calcium NOW, to build up bone density.

Women are very susceptible to osteoporosis after going through menopause. And when I’m old, I want to be able to kick any dood in the nuts, who tries to take my fabulous purse.

So I went to Costco, a.k.a. Chinese Disneyland, and bought a bottle of calcium and a bottle of daily multi vitamins.

Vanessa, a wizard of herbs, nutrition and all things burning man, advised me to take 1200MG of calcium per day. So now I take one calcium and one multi right before eating breakfast, and one of each right before eating dinner.

Hopefully by 2010, I’ll be Wolverine on the inside.

The BFF

Miya is the definition of gorgina.

We saw the Frida Kahlo exibit and the Contemporary Chinese Art exhibit at the SF MOMA. I highly recommend both.

Miya and her brother Kori, have the biggest lips on planet Asia.

The Parisan Night Suit

This is one of the best scenes from my favorite show, Freaks and Geeks. It totally captures what I do in front of the mirror, everytime I get a new clothing item.

Trans Fats=Partially Hydrogenated Oil

From About.com:

“Question: How can foods with partially hydrogenated oil be trans fat free?

I’m checking labels for trans fat and am confused about how certain products which label themselves as trans fat free actually list partially hydrogenated oil in their list of ingredients. I thought these were one and the same.

Maurice - About.com User

Answer: The FDA requires trans-fats to be listed on Nutrition Facts labels of packaged foods. If the food product has less than 0.5 gram of trans-fat per serving, the label can state that the food is trans-fat free, even if partially hydrogenated oil is an ingredient. The key here is understanding serving size. For example, let’s say you are looking at a bag of potato chips that claims to be trans-fat free, but still has partially hydrogenated oil listed as an ingredient. That might be technically true as long as you only eat one serving, but if you eat the whole bag of chips, you will be eating trans fats as well.

Trans-fats are known to raise LDL cholesterol and lower HDL cholesterol (the good kind) so it is a good idea to avoid them.”
